Cape Town Safari Holidays

Where To Go On A Cape Town Safari Holiday

One of the best and most exciting places on earth has to be South Africa and there’s not much better than booking yourself a Cape Town safari holiday. You could go 100 times and you’d still have a completely different experience each and every time. But if you’ve never been to this wonderful part of the world before, here are a few suggestions to help you really plan the trip of a lifetime.

Sanbona Wildlife Reserve

This five-star game reserve is a brilliant choice if you’re after a luxury retreat where you and yours can really get away from it all. It’s three hours outside the city centre, with three stunning game lodges to choose from, one of which caters for families. Expect to see an amazing array of different animals, including the rare white lion, the riverine rabbit and giraffes.

Aquila Private Game Reserve

If you’re looking to be as active as possible on your Cape Town holiday, perhaps consider Aquila instead. This is less than two hours away from the city and you’ll be able to book yourself game drives, horseback rides, plane trips and quad biking, so there’s no chance whatsoever of you getting bored. The accommodation is also reasonably priced, whether you’re flying solo or bringing the family along with you on your adventure.

Kagga Kamma Private Game Reserve

If you’re less concerned about spotting the Big Five and would rather have some peace and quiet in some of the most beautiful countryside to be found anywhere, Kagga Kamma is the place for you. There’s even an open-air room available so you can camp out under the stars!

Grootbos Private Nature Reserve

Those of you looking for something a little different, however, might be quite taken with the idea of a visit to Grootbos. This is actually one of the only nature reserves to be found that’s next to the sea, so you can expect to come across dolphins, southern right whales, great white sharks, Cape fur seals and a lot more. Who’d have thought it of a safari holiday away?

As you can see, you really are spoiled for choice when it comes to safaris in Cape Town – and this is just a small sample of what you can see and do. You’re sure to have the holiday to end all holidays, that’s for sure!

Robben Island

If gaining a bit of historical perspective is what you’re after, head to Robben Island as soon as you can. The site was used as a jail for predominantly political prisoners and it was here that former president of South Africa Nelson Mandela was imprisoned for 18 years.

Catch the cable car

You absolutely have to scale the dizzying heights of Table Mountain and by far the easiest way of doing so is by catching a cable car up to the top. If you’re feeling particularly adventurous, you can even abseil your way back down again.

Give a Gatsby a go

When you find yourself a bit peckish, make sure you fill up at least once on a Gatsby, a super loaf that comes stuffed with chips and all sorts of other delicious fillings like steak and atchar. Delicious!

Hike up Lion’s Head

No doubt you’re familiar with the site of the mountain slope in Cape Town that resembles a crouching lion. On a clear day, you can get no better views of the local area than from the top of the Head itself and the walk is a truly beautiful one, so make sure you bring sturdy boots with you.

See the Boulder’s Beach penguins

For something a little different, make your way to Boulder’s Beach where you can find a colony of penguins that were settled there way back in 1982. If you go down the boardwalk at Foxy Beach you’ll get up close and personal with the birds – but don’t try and disturb or touch them. And remember that they can bite!
